Tonight was my first time trying Afghan food. I have never eaten Afghan food before and I don’t have much experience with middle eastern foods at all.

Middle eastern food isn’t mainstream like Italian or Chinese here in Adelaide so it’s hard to know where to go if you don’t have the right recommendations. You don’t want to try something new to have a negative experience and never eat it again.

K suggested we go to The Ghan Kebab House. All his friends have said it’s one of the best Afghan places around so I was really looking forward to it.

When we walked in the place smelt divine. The smell of rich exotic spices was wafting out from the kitchen into the restaurant.

The restaurant was already half full when we arrived with lots of reserved signs on other tables. Lucky we came early and they were able to accommodate us without a booking. If you plan on coming in at a later time I would recommend making a reservation so you don’t miss out.

I ordered a mixed skewer plate with rice which came with a lamb skewer, lamb mince skewer and chicken skewer. Seasoned with exotic spices and grilled perfectly. All the meat skewers were so soft, moist and tender. Very surprising as I was expecting the lamb to be chewy which was not the case at all.

K just got 4 lamb skewers. Nothing too adventurous. Again the meat was flavourful and so moist.

All meals came with naan bread, side salad and 2 sauces which consisted of a chilli sauce and a yoghurt sauce. The naan bread was light on top and crispy on the bottom. The salad was fresh and crunchy. The chilli sauce was delicious. Not too spicy and it complimented the meat perfectly. If you’re not a big chilli eater the yoghurt sauce will help with the cooling effect. It was tangy, zesty and refreshing.

Wow! My expectations were blown away! Every mouthful was amazing. K said he wasn’t very hungry but he ate the whole thing. We seriously had nothing left on our plates. I need to come here again immediately because it was so damn good.

So if you’re a first timer like me wanting to try some middle eastern food definitely come here. You won’t be disappointed at all.

High praise to this place! I’ll have to check it out next time I’m in Adelaide! I love Middle Eastern food! Can you write a blog about the best Schnitty in Adelaide? My GF wants to know for when we head to the South Central! 🙂
