Sunny’s Shop is a tiny little corner eatery serving up a variety of authentic South East Asian dishes.
The venue is furnished with dark wooden walls, lush tropical greenery and with a Balinese shop front replicating a laid back beach hut.
Outside there is a lane way with outdoor seating and a jungle of tropical plants. The metal tables and bright plastic stools are cheap and flimsy simulating that authentic street style dining that is common in Asia.
Crispy chicken wings. The wings had a salty and mouth watering crispy skin. The meat was moist and succulent while the lemon added a splash of zest.
Traditional Thai papaya salad with fresh chilli, snake bean, tomato and peanuts. The mixture of papaya and snake beans were crisp and crunchy. The dressing was a combination of sweet and tangy with a mild spiciness.
Pad thai with prawns. The noodles were firm and held their shape well. There was ample sauce to keep the noodles moist. The prawns had a beautiful smokey chargrilled flavour and fresh aromatic herbs completed the dish.
Slow braised beef cheek with 5 spice & sweet soy. The beef cheek was extremely moist, tender and just melted in the mouth. The sauce was sweet and full bodied from the slow cooking.
Sunny’s shop provide humble comfort food in a bright and fun setting. Each dish is unsophisticated and unrefined but authentic just as you would find on the streets of Asia and bursting with full blown flavour.
