09 Jan Lucky Lupitas
The renowned taqueria, Lucky Lupitas has made its way into the CBD to the delight of its many loyal customers. They may have changed the location but they’re still serving up the best Mexican you will find in Adelaide.
The atmosphere is the same as you’ve come to know, casual yet electric in this now “not so small” taqueria. Light wood finishes keep the venue looking fresh and unpretentious yet the colourful tableware and all Latino inspired art give the venue the cultural character you would expect to find in a Mexican/Latin American restaurant.
Passion fruit margarita. Fruity and full of flavour, the margaritas really come with a kick.
Lucky’s elote. Grilled corn on the cob with chipotle mayonesa, cheese and lime. The combination of creamy mayonnaise, salty cheese and sweet juicy corn make this dish a must have.
Guacamole served with totopos, pepitas and fresh tomato. Now this is what you call guacamole! The avocado dip was rich and creamy while the totopos and pepitas provided a salty and slightly spicy contrasting crunch.
Braised pato. Corn tortilla with guajillo, orange braised duck, crispy onion, habanero sauce, red cabbage and cilantro.
Spicy garlic prawn and squid. Flour tortilla served with grilled squid and prawns in a garlic chilli butter, chipotle mayo, spicy peanuts, pickled red onion, pick de gallo and cilantro pesto.
Crispy fish taco. Flour tortilla with lightly battered fish, creamy chipotle slaw and cilantro lime emulsion.
All 3 tacos were bright and colourful. The proteins were extremely soft and tender and each had such a unique flavour that you couldn’t order just one.
Dessert platter. The dessert platter consisted of a variety of textures and flavours.
Donut holes. The donuts were more on the dense and chewy side like a sweet bread which was nonetheless still very tasty.
Raspberry mousse. The mousse was smooth with a delicate raspberry flavour while the chocolate added a richness and depth.
Lucky Lupitas is the best place for Mexican/South American cuisine. The food hasn’t changed one bit since moving locations, if anything it tastes even better now that they are in a more spacious venue.
