From the people who brought us the popular Corner Store Cafe at Dulwich comes their sister store Long Lost Friend. Located on the corner of busy Magill Road I found it quite difficult for me to find a space to park my car.
The venue is styled in a cool and contemporary fashion and the walls are lined with multiple paintings from various local artists which are for purchase.
My weak mocha was on the bitter side despite asking for weak. I needed to add some sugar to make it a bit more palatable. In saying that the texture of the milk was really good. Nicely steamed with a lovely layer of creamy froth.
Minty juice. Freshly squeezed apple and mint juice. Very refreshing with a hint of tartness coming from the granny smith apples. Loved the addition of mint.
Baked eggs. Eggs baked in a terracotta pot with chorizo, bocconcini and oregano served with toast. Tasting the sauce on its own I found it was very acidic. The egg yolks were overcooked on top and the egg whites were still raw underneath. Luckily the sauce was hot enough for me to mix the egg whites through to cook them. After mixing with my eggs the sauce tasted a lot more balanced.
Gluten free polenta cake. Orange polenta cake dusted with icing sugar and topped with flaked almonds. This cake was beautifully moist and nutty.
Long Lost Friend is a trendy cafe that is super popular with the locals. Even though there are plenty of side streets they were jam packed with cars so make sure to give yourself ample time if you are meeting with friends or if you need to be elsewhere afterwards.
