Au Matin Calme a cosy little French inspired cafe used to be located on Hutt Street in the CBD. They have since closed up shop and moved to The Parade renaming themselves La Madeleine.
Located towards the end of The Parade I thought I would quickly pop in to warm up with a nice hot coffee and get away from all the crazy wind and rain Adelaide was experiencing.
When I walked in the smell of freshly baked bread and croissants coming from the kitchen was divine.
They serve a variety of baguettes, quiches and pies for lunch and a large assortment of cakes and croissants are available in the glass cabinet. All made and freshly baked in store.
My weak mocha. No creamy milky froth that I’m accustomed to but still tasted nice nonetheless.
I couldn’t resist the beautiful aromas coming out of the kitchen so I ordered something small to try. Chicken and leek vol au vent pie served with side salad. Chicken and leek in a rich and creamy sauce on top of crispy, buttery, flaky layers of puff pastry. The chicken was moist and the leeks gave off a wonderful caramelised flavour. The coleslaw salad was fresh and crunchy and nicely complimented my pie.
I was looking forward to also trying one of their specialty flavoured croissants but they only had plain and almond available which was a shame.
If you are looking for dessert they also have a range of waffles and crepes available which is something I’d really like to come back and try. La Madeleine is the perfect place for a light lunch or a coffee and cake on The Parade. Cosy and very comforting.
