Hawker Street Cafe is a little cafe located in Bowden just minutes away outside of the CBD. The place is decked out in vintage and recycled décor which gives off a cool retro vibe.
The menu is written on a large blackboard on the wall next to the counter. They have an open kitchen so you can see everything being freshly made in front of you and alfresco dining at the rear of the cafe. Perfect for the warmer months or those that have dogs.
I initially came because I saw they had a baked egg special for the weekend on their Instagram page. Unfortunately it was not available and must have sold out before I arrived so I ordered the house made beans instead.
My weak mocha was delicious with a good balance of coffee and chocolate. The milk was nicely steamed and had good texture with a light creamy layer of froth on top.
House made beans served with poached eggs, bacon and brown bread toast. The beans were beautifully sweet and smokey and generously saucy. My eggs were perfectly poached with golden runny yolks. The bacon was deliciously salty and went well with the sweetness of the beans. The toast just needed to be a toasted more. I found it a little too soft still and it went soggy sitting next to my beans.
They had a variety of juice specials available and house made baked goods in their cabinet but I was actually really full from my breakfast so I did not order anything extra. Although in hindsight I should have got something to takeaway as their cakes looked really good.
Hawker Street Cafe is a laid back brunch spot perfect for those days where you want to have a lazy weekend breakfast away from the hustle and bustle of the CBD.
