Delicatessen Kitchen And Bar
An old co worker had recommended Delicatessen Kitchen And Bar to me a while back and was raving about the European style food they served. I asked A to join me for lunch since she worked across the road.
There aren’t many places in Adelaide that do classic American foods. When I saw they had a Reuben sandwich on the menu I immediately thought of the movie When Harry Met Sally where they are sitting in the famous Katz’s Delicatessen and that famous scene with Meg Ryan.
Katz’s Delicatessen in New York is famous for it’s Reuben sandwich so I just had to try it. A couldn’t resist the mouth watering description either so we both ordered the same thing.
This sandwich was huge! It was generously piled high with corned beef and sauerkraut. The corned beef was amazingly tender and moist. The Swiss cheese was mild yet creamy and melted well over the hot beef mixing perfectly with the luscious tangy Russian dressing. The sauerkraut was crunchy and delightfully sour perfectly complementing the hot salty beef. The rocket added freshness and the hand cut chips were delicious. Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
I didn’t think that I could actually finish this humongous sandwich because it was so big but it was just so damn good that I could not stop and I completely demolished it.
It was so good that I was thinking about how delicious the sandwich was for the rest of the day. I can’t wait to return to try out their European inspired dinner menu. They also serve escargots but I don’t know if I’d be game enough to try them.
