Creperie Bruxelles is owned by the family that runs the famous Adelaide poffertjes stand. After many years of trading at the Royal Adelaide Show, The Fringe and many other various special events around Adelaide they now have a permanent store in Mile End. They specialise in desserts and have a wide range of flavoured crepes, waffles and poffertjes. The place is decorated in an old fashioned style reminiscent of a milk bar with lots of photos showcasing their family history.
Poffertjes. Also known as mini Dutch pancakes served with butter, lemon, cream and generously topped with icing sugar. These little pancakes are so soft, so light and so fluffy. They literally just melt in your mouth.
Bruxelles waffle served with fresh strawberries, warm Belgian chocolate and cream. The waffle was light and on the softer side. It was my first time trying a Bruxelles waffle and did not suit my tastes. I still prefer the Liege waffle which is more dense, sweeter and crispier.
Crepes aux poires. Crepes served with caramelised pears, chai cream and topped with toasted almonds. The crepe was a little undercooked and I would have liked a bit more colour. The pears were poached nicely and held their shape well. The chai cream had a subtle chai flavour and the toasted almonds gave a nice crunchy contrast to the soft crepes.
Previously you could only get poffertjes at the Royal Adelaide Show and various special events and there would always be a long line up. So it is great they have a permanent location meaning you can enjoy poffertjes all year round and any time you want.
Creperie Bruxelles also close up shop every year during August and September to run their poffertjes stand at the Royal Adelaide Show so make sure you get in quick otherwise you will have to wait till they reopen.
