02 Apr Chicco Palms
The typically ignored Western suburbs now have something to offer residents looking for a good feed and fun closer to home. Adelaidians can skip the journey into the CDB thanks to the crew that has blessed us with the likes of Chicken & Pig, Borsa and Pizza e Mozzarella. Their newest venture, Chicco Palms, is bringing classic Italo-Americana to the suburbs.
The space is something not yet seen in Adelaide, a 50’s kitsch inspired diner, reminiscent of sunny California with a laid back, retro feel. Vinyl booth type seating line the crisp white walls, scattered with nostalgic photos from decades past. Vibrant pops of yellow and blue paint along with checkboard linoleum really bring this place to life and instils that retro feeling.
At the heart of this kitchen is the remarkable beige hand-tiled pizza oven in full view of the restaurant. Etched with a tiled signature palm tree, the inspiring oven fills the atmosphere with the alluring aroma of pizza.
Rose shaker with rose, gin, strawberry and lime. A delicate and pretty cocktail with subtle hints of strawberry and lime.
Carpaccio beef with capers and grana padano. The beef was soft, tender and melted in the mouth.
Spaghetti meatballs made with pork and veal. The spaghetti was more on the soft side and a little over cooked for my personal taste but I prefer a more chewy texture when it comes to pasta. The tomato sauce was thick and rich with a full bodied flavour and the meatballs were incredibly moist.
Marinara with tomato, garlic and oregano.
Porchetta nduja with tomato, food di latte, nduja, olives and chilli. Both pizzas had a thin and crispy base with a smoky flavour, the toppings were very simple and tasty and the crust was crunchy with a slight chewy texture.
Pannacotta with white chocolate and berries. The pannacotta was creamy with a silky smooth texture and the berries added extra sweetness.
The simple, no fuss dishes are served on sleek customised crockery in generous portions. The atmosphere is vibrant and fun, with music filling every corner of the venue, you will instantly settle in and won’t want to leave.
