Breakfast, lunch and dinner 6 days
A was supposed to come over on Saturday and hang out. We had planned to make dinner together and chill out but she had a big Friday night and was hungover. I was pretty lazy myself so we decided to cancel and reschedule another day instead.
K had been working on the yard all day since 7am so he didn’t feel like cooking either so he suggested we go out for dinner to Ruby Red Flamingo.
We didn’t arrive too late so I thought there would still be tables available but they told me it was an hour wait. We didn’t want to wait that long so we left.
We ended up going to Basilico Cafe instead which is about 5 minutes away from our house. The place is quite small but that’s because a huge wood oven occupies a large part of the restaurant.
They do beautiful wood oven pizzas here and ever since we discovered Basilico Cafe this place has become our go to for local pizza. No more dominos for us! Joke!
We’ve ordered takeaway many times from here but this was our first time dining in.
I absolutely loved their meatballs. Not the prettiest things but they were so soft and moist. Served with home made tomato sauce I could just eat this with bread.
Our wood oven pizza was huge. Half marinara and half supreme. They don’t normally do half and half pizzas but they were so lovely and happy to accommodate us. The crust was crispy and the base smoky and delicious. Only bad thing was the middle got a bit soggy after a while.
We were going to order Italian sausage penne but the owner recommended we get freshly made tagliatelle instead. He was so friendly and attentive making sure everything was good with our meals. He made us feel really comfortable like we were members of his family having dinner at his house.
The food was delicious. Very rustic, traditional and homely. This is what I imagine an Italian grandma would serve up for her family at dinner time.
Great suburban restaurant with good food if you live around the area or not wanting to go into the city.
