Andre’s Cucina And Polenta Bar
Andre’s Cucina And Polenta Bar is another favourite restaurant of mine serving up hearty Italian food and specialising in polenta. Owner Andre Ursini is best known for his appearance as one of the contestants on the first series of Master Chef Australia.
They have a small menu consisting of entrees, antipasto boards and polenta and a large recommendations blackboard menu with new dishes. The recommendations board is seasonal and can change weekly or daily depending on what produce is available.
It was my birthday a few days ago and I caught up with B to catch up and celebrate.
There is also the shared experience where the chefs feed you which is what we opted for.
Swordfish carpaccio. Thinly sliced swordfish with capperi, mint, anchovy, raisin salsa and pistachios. The contrast of salty anchovies and sweet raisin salsa on top of silky kingfish slices was heavenly.
Beef carpaccio. Thinly sliced black angus fillet with walnuts, fresh truffle pecorino and balsamic. The black angus was silky soft and luscious. The buttery and nutty pecorino, sweet balsamic and crunchy walnuts finished the dish off nicely.
Both carpaccio dishes were absolutely exquisite.
Salumi board. A selection of finely shaved Italian salumi with bread sticks.
Cavatelli. Hand made saffron cavatelli with blue swimmer crab, bisque, porcini and fresh asparagus. The cavatelli was al dente, slightly chewy with a bit of bite. The crab paired with the porcini added a beautiful delicate sweetness to the dish.
La carne. 400g MSA iron steak with balsamic glaze and roast potatoes. The steak was cooked perfectly medium rare and the balsamic glaze added a touch of sweetness complimenting the soft and juicy steak. I loved the potatoes. They were so crispy and super crunchy.
Polenta funghi. Polenta dressed with sautéed mushrooms, taleggio cheese, basil pesto and pine nuts. The polenta was so soft and creamy.
Mixed salad with radicchio, iceberg, rocket and carrot dressed with vinaigrette. Simple, fresh and crunchy salad.
Zeppole. Italian donuts dusted in sugar and served with vanilla custard, caramel sauce and flaked almonds. The donuts were crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside.
Andre’s Cucina And Polenta Bar is a beautiful homely Italian restaurant serving amazing rustic food. One of Adelaide’s best Italian restaurants.
