Africola is an award winning restaurant specialising in North African cuisine.
Outside the building is modest with its neat and unassuming brick frontage. Stepping inside you are transported to a completely different world filled with a myriad of vibrant colours that just leaves you in awe.
Named 2017 restaurant of the year by The Advertiser. The food is unique, bold and packs a punch in flavour.
Tea sandwich. Chicken skin and hot drippings. The bread was soft, fluffy and had the crusts cut off. The chicken skin was crisp and crunchy and the dipping sauce was absolutely divine. Oh my god! What a way to start my dining experience. This sandwich is so addictive and I can honestly say the best sandwich I have ever had!
Black cod roe with fried peppers. The roe had a beautiful rich and salty sea flavour while the peppers were sweet with a crisp outer coating.
Boston bay mussels with fermented chilli and garlic. The mussels with plump and juicy with a creamy texture. The stock was full bodied and rich in flavour.
Pork chop with smoked potato and cavalo Nero. The pork chop was thick, succulent and tender.
Charred carrots with chicken. Fat and wakame.
Charred pineapple with miso mousse. The pineapple was sweet with a wonderful caramelisation while the miso mousse added a unique savoury aspect.
Warm date pudding with toffee. The pudding was beautifully moist and slightly dense and the toffee sauce was rich and warming.
Africola has been one of my highlight dining experiences for 2017 and one of the most memorable. The food was extraordinary and definitely lives up to its name of restaurant of the year.
