The Pantry On Egmont is one of my favourite breakfast places and one of the top 10 in Adelaide. I don’t get to come here often as I’d like to as they’re located on the other side of the city from where I live. If you know Adelaide everything is usually within a 20 minute drive maximum. Anything over then sometimes I really can’t be bothered.
Today I was texting H and telling him how I felt like eating banh mi. Coincidentally he had taken a day off and suggested we have brunch instead so I decided to take him to The Pantry since he’d never been before.
It’s quite a small space but gives off a cosy and homely feel. Usually I have to wait every time I come here because it’s so busy but today we got a table straight away.
I was totally looking forward to having their smashed avocado with grilled haloumi and tomato chutney. Unfortunately for me they had a slight change to their menu. There was no smashed avocado anymore!
My home made peach iced tea with mint was delicious and super refreshing.
I chose the new menu item smashed pumpkin on toast with dukkah poached eggs and feta. I also got csabai sausage on the side. The salty feta complimented the soft sweet pumpkin perfectly and the dukkah gave it excellent crunch. My eggs were cooked perfectly. They were soft and oozed out rich delicious egg yolk as soon as I cut into them with my fork. Just the way I like it.
H got the breakfast special mushroom ragu with poached eggs and hollandaise on toast. The mushrooms were so moist, tender and flavourful. The hollandaise was creamy, rich and delicious. Again the eggs were perfectly poached.
The servings are so generous here and they always do perfect poached eggs EVERY SINGLE TIME which is something I’m anal about because I absolutely hate overcooked eggs.
The cakes and pastries in the display cabinet looked so good but we were both too full to try any. I was even too full to go to the counter to get a picture!
The service is friendly and attentive. The food and drinks are always good. Everything a small brunch place should be.
The only downside is they aren’t closer to where I live otherwise I would come here every week. Seriously one of the best breakfast places in Adelaide.
