Minestra is a beautiful Italian cafe specialising in Calabrian style food. Their ingredients are sourced from local neighbours grown in their backyards or anyone that has a surplus in homegrown vegetables. Their menu is always changing depending on what ingredients they have available.
My weak mocha was lovely with a good balance of coffee and chocolate. The milk was nicely steamed with a creamy layer of froth on top.
Poached eggs on wood oven toast with crispy pancetta, peperonata and olive oil. The eggs were beautifully poached with soft creamy egg whites and oozy rich golden yolks. The wood oven toast was so crisp and delightfully crunchy. The pancetta was crispy and deliciously salty and went so well with the sweet and soft slow cooked peperonata. A simple rustic Italian style breakfast that was just truly beautiful.
They had a range of cakes available on the counter top so as usual I just had to try something to satisfy my naughty sweet tooth.
Torta De Santiago. Almond cake served with some pouring cream and dusted with cinnamon. This cake was so light, nutty and moist. The cream just added a beautiful richness. I really wanted to have another slice but had to restrain myself.
They have a large range of vegetarian and vegan options available on their menu for those with dietary requirements so no one misses out.
Every Friday night they hold a pasta night for dinner with the menu changing weekly. It’s amazing how they come up with a new menu each week showcasing the local produce in season.
Minestra serves beautiful home style Italian food that incorporates local home grown produce. The dishes are so simple and fresh yet so flavourful.
