Hibernia Cafe is a cafe located inside the historic Magill Institute building on Magill Road.
The venue is furnished in a minimalist style with a mixture of Scandinavian style furniture and geometric light fittings. With light wooden floor boards, clean white walls and a variety of greenery giving off a warm and inviting atmosphere.
My weak mocha was delicious with a good balance of coffee and chocolate. The milk was nicely steamed and had good texture with a light creamy layer of froth on top.
Cornbread served with grilled haloumi, jalapeño salsa and a poached egg. The cornbread was buttery with a short and crumbly texture while the haloumi was salty and soft with a slight chew. My poached egg was a little over cooked so there was no flowing yolk when I cut into it but the jalapeño salsa was beautifully spicy and fresh.
Salmon crepe served with spiced hollandaise and poached eggs. The crepe was thin, delicate and tender with a subtle butteriness. The poached egg was a little over cooked so again no flowing yolk which was a little disappointing but the spiced hollandaise made up for it with its rich, tangy and creamy flavour.
Hibernia Cafe has breathed new life into the building after being unoccupied for so long. Their unique take on breakfast dishes are very interesting, exciting and make a fantastic addition to the Eastern suburbs.
