Breakfast and lunch 6 days
Hang Bakery makes the best banh mi in Adelaide hands down. I only recently discovered this place when I asked H where he went to get his banh mi because all the ones I’ve eaten were disappointing.
There are so many places around Adelaide that do banh mi and currently it is one of the most popular lunch items but I’ve never found a place I really liked so I don’t eat them that often.
H had been telling me how good Hang Bakery was ages ago but it’s a 20 minute drive away from where I live. 40 minutes to and from for a tiny bread roll?! No thanks! I’d rather drive 40 minutes to go to a nice restaurant instead. What a big mistake and boy was I missing out!
While I was in the area one day I decided to go and try one. Unfortunately for me I went during lunch time and oh my god there were already 20 other people waiting and more lining up by the minute! Eeeek! I texted H and asked him what was going on and why were there so many people. He told me Hang Bakery is super popular and if you wanted banh mi you either had to go before or after the lunch rush because you would be waiting around for ages.
Adelaide was still in the middle of its summer heat wave and I was not waiting around in the scorching heat so I left dejected vowing to come back another day to see what all the fuss was about.
When I finally did get to return I got a roast pork roll. The bread was crispy and the pork crackling was the crunchiest I’ve ever eaten. Where have you been all my life?! Now I totally understood why there was always a massive line up. It was amazing! I can now say I am willing to drive 40 minutes for a tiny bread roll but I buy 2 to make the trip worth my while because 1 is just not enough.
Ooops! I didn’t get a photo of the inside because I forgot to stop eating midway. It was that good!
They also have another shop in Paralowie if you’re in the northern suburbs. You guys are lucky because that store does bubble tea too. Perfect combination.
